Happy Birthday Isaiah

Today is my birthday!

2012-12-16 14.28.09

This year I turn 38. Ya, some of you may not believe it, but I am nearing 40. It’s not the age that bothers me, but nearing 40 seems like a milestone in life to measure one’s accomplishment. So I have 2 more years to fulfil whatever I have planned to do, like completing a marathon, getting promoted in work, move into a bigger house so that the girls can have their own room, etc..

2012-10-16 21.32.32

My birthday wish…

(1) Joey will enjoy her P1 studies
(2) Jayne will get used to K2 life
(3) Kless will be happy and healthy
(4) My parents and in-laws can rest more and enjoy life
(5) I will be healthy to serve more, learn more from my mentors, have solid quality time with my family, take more good photos, many many more…

Thanksgiving 2012

The last post for 2012. I want to be thankful for so many people and things that has happened in this one year. Just selecting a few different people I hardly talk about in this blog.

IK Team
They are a group of friends who have been serving together with me in church. They look to me as their leader, and I look to them as my personal encouragers in times when I feel lonely in ministry. Their passion and love for the people will always spur me on and remind me the very reason why we continue to do what we are called to do.
Thank you!

Fellow Reds
Both Victor & Simon are my fellow Liverpool FC supporters. Really thankful for people like them in the office who makes working in this office one of the best thing to ever happen. We joke and talked about LFC like playing Football Manager. We drink Ya Kun everyday like we are the owners. Thank you guys for being my friend. YNWA!

Colleagues aka B.O.S.
Yvonne and Joyce are both Kless’s Best Of Sisters. Being the Kless’s husband and by the fact that Joyce sits just behind me in office, they are probably the closest girl colleagues I know in office. Especially Joyce who constantly irritates me with her “interest” as a garung kuni. If you have a chance to come to our office, you will understand, cos our desk area is just like the unofficial storeroom for everything we do in church. But nonetheless, thank you ladies for being my wife’s best friends and also mine.

My family
No matter what, the year cannot end without appreciating the 3 most important ladies in my life. God placed them to love me, to support me, to allow me to love them back. Friends will come and go at different seasons of life, but family is here to stay forever. So I thank God for all of you and thank you too!

Christmas Village @ Flyer

There is the Legoland, there is the Hello Kitty Land, it’s no surprise someone will soon come forth with the Christmas Village idea. What I was hoping for was a bigger venue and probably more activities for the kids. Nonetheless, it was still quite nice to have some Christmas feel during this season.

DSC_5175

Situated at the Flyer Sky Deck, the place was transformed into Santa’s workshop.

DSC_5151

I was just checking with my wife regarding these snowman figures, I don’t remember seeing them in the past few year of Christmas, but this year, almost everywhere I went I can see them as decorations. But I have to say, they are pretty cute. Can imagine if a house or room is filled with such figurines.

DSC_5143

DSC_5144

Opps! Joey seems to be a tad too big sized for the wooden horse.

DSC_5145

This is definitely one item I would love to have in my house. Amazing!

Closer look at the snow figures.

DSC_5161

Caught Santa taking a break while the kids are running off to the outdoor portion. Hahaha…

DSC_5162

Joey wrote a letter to Santa, can you see she purposely cover the portion of her wish? Smart! She knows if papa sees it, the wish may not come true.

DSC_5167

Besides the Santa’s Workshop, the outdoor is also decorated for some festive feel. Too bad the kids can’t go into the huts. Maybe a suggestion that they can get a Santarina to station outside the house giving out sweets to the kids.

DSC_5179

Fly me to the MBS. It’s time to drop some gifts to the people up there.

4D3N Perth Trip (Part 4)

This is the last instalment of our Perth trip. We went to the following places – Fremantle Market, Fremantle Prison, Northbridge, Kings Park and Swan Lake.

Fremantle is a small town just about 20mins drive from Perth City. It’s a very nice town with some historic buildings that is just breath-taking. For example the church shown below, it’s a popular place for weddings.

DSC_3680

DSC_3686

DSC_3702

In the square, you can find colourful table-tennis tables like this. So cool.

DSC_3692

The entire place is just so peaceful and beautiful. Perth is indeed a suitable place to just relax away from our busy work life.

DSC_3695

DSC_3701

DSC_3704

This is the town hall and there was a coffee brewing competition going on inside. The entire event hall was filled with the aroma of the best beans from the world.

DSC_3708

The girls were up for a photo shoot in one of the back alley. Some really cute shots. Basically Joey just stood there and Jayne did all the actions.

“Play me, I’m Yours.” We can see such pianos in a few places in Fremantle, what a wonderful idea for people to just play a tune or in our case, pose for a photo.

DSC_3722

If you know Joey & Jayne, they are 2 girls that love to give to the street performers. I emptied all my coins for them to give to this Accordion player.

DSC_3730

Another amazing attraction you have to visit is the Fremantle Prison.

DSC_3740

No longer in use, this is the only World Heritage listed building in Western Australia. The prison received its first 75 convicts in the year 1850 and it was closed in the year 1991. It was not until Aug 2010, Fremantle Prison was inscribed on to the World Heritage list.

DSC_3742

DSC_3745

There are guided tours (Doing Time, Great Escapes, Tunnel, Torchlight) available for paying public, ranging from A$19 – A$60 for different tours. For A$99 you can experience all tours. You can find out about the prices here.

But with limited time and 2 young kids, we forgo the tours and did “out time” outside the main gates. There are still quite a bit of things to see.

A view of the more common cell. I’m not sure they have TV back then.

DSC_3765

This is the examination room where the inmates will be stripped naked and examined.

A sneak photo of what to expect inside the main gates. Look at the vast space.

DSC_3779

Just besides the prison is the Fremantle Markets. The market opens only from Fri-Sun, so if you want to visit, make sure you plan for it carefully.

DSC_3734

The market is separated into The Yard and The Hall. Look out for the different trading hours to avoid disappointment.

DSC_3784

In the hall, you will find all sorts of trades, from food to wares, from clothing to accessories, almost everything you need can be found here in one place.

DSC_3785

DSC_3787

DSC_3790

The hotdogs taste as good as it looked.

DSC_3792

DSC_3795

I don’t think we can find such a stall in Singapore selling all sorts of iron-on and badge pins.

DSC_3802

DSC_3803

DSC_3806

This stall sells bags that are so unique, I find it hard to even bring it out. on the streets.

DSC_3812

DSC_3804

DSC_3809

Face painting is very common in Perth too.

DSC_3814

When you are out in the yard, you will see more people hanging around the shops or just seated along the cafes enjoying a cup of coffee or tea. Isn’t this what we all have been visualizing all along?

DSC_3818

A market is not complete without some performance. This couple has been performing for years and they are very humorous.

DSC_3821

DSC_3830

DSC_3833

Fremantle is definitely a good place to visit when you are in Perth. I just love the combination of vibe and peace all in one place.

DSC_3845

Next up is the place call Northbridge, not sure whether is it located at the north, but it is about 15mins drive away from Perth City. When we were there, it so happened that the locals were celebrating a special event, “Friends of Mexico”. We were in for a treat.

DSC_3865

Huge bean bags were placed on the grass for people to just grab and sit down, and enjoy an afternoon time of relaxation. There was also a large screen playing some cartoons for kids.

DSC_3853

Joey enjoying her corn.

DSC_3863

The event was something about celebrating the “dead” in Mexico, a reckon its a bit like Halloween.

DSC_3864

So there were cars with coffins or skeletons in it.

DSC_3870

DSC_3867

DSC_3871

Northbridge is actually the most rowdy town in Perth. You can find all types of restaurants here and also some of the most happening night life in this town.

DSC_3873

DSC_3884

DSC_3886

DSC_3888

DSC_3887

This is not a library, its one of the disco halls

DSC_3893

And in Northbridge, there are 2 shops or food you need to try. Both are famous but we managed to only tried one.

The famous Apple Strudel., some says its the best in Australia. They are only opened on Mon-Fri (8am – 530pm) and Sat (8am – 1230pm).

DSC_3898

The 2nd famous food is the Chilli Mussels. Uncle Vincent’s Chilli Mussels. If you love the spicy, then you have to try this! Kless and I totally loved it to the max!

DSC_4022

For more details on the menu and operating hours, check their website.

DSC_4023

The interior is a cosy Italiano style deco, the people are very nice and friendly. And of course the mussels are delicious!

DSC_4027

Try their homemade pasta too, very special and nice.

DSC_4029

A few more street photo shots before we leave Northbridge.

DSC_3912

DSC_3914

On the last day of our stay in Perth, we visited the Kings Park just 5mins away from where we were staying. It’s a very beautiful place with some war memorials and a nice restaurant for breakfast.

DSC_3922

DSC_3928

Check out the breakfast! I can have this every morning.

DSC_3924

DSC_3926

The 3 ladies are enjoying some sunshine after a few days of cold weather.

DSC_3935

DSC_3938

From the top of the park, you are able to see the entire Perth business district.

DSC_3944

The area was named Kings Park in honour of King Edward VII of England after a visit to Perth by his son, the Duke of York (later King George V).

Finally it was time to go home, we drove past the Swan Lake and decided to get off for a while, but the weather was not kind to us, soon it rained and we didn’t see a single swan. Instead, I caught a very romantic couple hugging each other closely as it was actually raining hail. That was how cold it turned.

DSC_4021

DSC_4010

Perth is a great place to relax without too much activities. Perth City is quieter so a drive out to the other towns nearby would be a good choice. But still overall, we enjoyed ourselves, especially the cold weather and some of the beautiful scenery.

DSC_3848

Thank you for following us on this 4 part Perth post. Hope you enjoyed it as much as we had.
