Mid-Autumn Festival @ Gardens by the Bay

It has been a long while since the entire family went out for some relaxing family time. Brought the girls out to the FEO Children’s Garden for a fun time. Thank God that the haze situation was much better.

With the invite from Gardens by the Bay, we took a trip to the latest flower display at the Flower Dome. More than 10,000 Chrysanthemums were brought in to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival.

Under the SG50 Seniors Special, local senior citizens aged 60 and above can enter the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest for free, while caregivers enjoy 50% off tickets. The SG50 Seniors Special is on until 31 Dec 2015.

Joey took over the camera while in the Flower Dome and this is what she saw.

One of the highlights for visiting Gardens by the Bay was to see the hundreds of lanterns that lighted up the Gardens in a really festive mood. As many as 300 lanterns shaped like various animals and plants decorate the Gardens. Cultural performances, Lantern painting competition, food street, for a moment, we were all transported to a Chinese New Year look-a-like setting.

It was a nice touch to have a Food Street for the visitors. We had a great time setting up our picnic mats on the grass and enjoying a cool evening.

Snappin’ Good Time @ Gardens By The Bay

This is the second time Joey and I attended a photography seminar together. Besides learning the basics of photography, I see it more of an opportunity for us to build a memory for ourselves. I would definitely be happy to hear from Joey when she grows up in future and fondly remembers such times we had.

This event was organized by Gardens by the Bay – Educational Programmes, comprises of 2 parts – theory and practical. The instructor for the 1-hr course is Andrew Tan who has more than 35 years of photography experiences. Seeing how he patiently handles the queries of the kids, I can be sure he is good photographer with exceptional patience when waiting for his subject in shooting.

Andrew taught about focal length, ISO, aperture, shutter speed, lighting, composition, etc. After an hour’s lesson, it was time for the kids and accompanying adults to try out the theory in practice. We were all given 5 subjects to shoot – supertree, flowers, non-living thing, nature patterns and family photo.

Here are Joey’s selections:

I think Joey has a similar liking for portraits. And she is quite good too. FYI, we learnt the difference between portraits and candid shots. Portraits are when we asked the person for permission to take their photos and candid shots are just without obtaining permission.

This is definitely a portrait shot by Joey of the student volunteers.
