River Safari Boo

Never imagine the first visit to the River Safari will be for the Halloween event – Safari Boo. And for the first time, we attended a Halloween event without the “horror”, totally planned for the kids in mind.

Poor Joey who was slightly sick that day, but still so willing to pose for daddy. In the end, she had her fun and the fever was gone. I guess a bit of outdoor walk and sweat does help.

River Safari is different from the Zoo or Night Safari because 80% of the place is under shelter, which makes it so much more relaxing to walk around, without having to battle with the scorching sun or rain. And for Halloween theme, the displays were specially decorated too. Cute!

The main attraction for the kids was the special Halloween “River Talk” segment. It’s an interesting way to incorporate both the Halloween theme and animals from the park, like the Owl, Iguana, Snake, Hedgehog and many more. The kids had a great time getting up close and personal with the animals too. Below you see one of the kids knocking on the door to get her ‘treat’ from the witch. Brave little girl. After her, every other kids went ahead to get theirs.

The alligator actually reminded me of our Darwin trip to the Crocodile Lake.

Too bad we didn’t get to the see the main attraction at River Safari, but only the statue. Maybe a second trip beckons us.

And the night just slips away as fast as the event. Enjoyed a night out with the family and enjoyed the serenity of the park too.

Night Safari - Mystica Wildlife Wonderland

When we mention animals, we usually will think about Singapore Zoo. Not many people Singaporeans included, will remember we actually have a Night Safari which is just besides the Zoo. And thanks to the timely invite, we were reminded about this place of interest which is only less than 10mins drive from our home in Woodlands.

And from 13-31 Dec, Night Safari presents the Mystica Wildlife Wonderland.

Before we enter into the park, there were numerous fairies just roaming outside for a photo chance.

Or be entertained by the resident magician. He is quite good.

Joey was not willing to take a photo with the Twins but okay with the Clam Fairy. I thought the Twins are not so ‘scary'-looking’. It’s a special thing with the girls about fairies I don’t understand.

And what about with a frog? They took a step away but still with their signature ‘peace’ sign. Haha..

And you won’t miss the trio of Flamingos, especially when they perform their dance to the standing crowd.

While the girls have no qualms taking a shot with the lit-up fairy, I was more intrigued by the ‘darker’ costume lady. Talking about different taste for beauty.

Fairy. Frog. Who?

My opinion is to reach Night Safari early, maybe at 7pm, then you can spend a bit more time outside with all the different characters and shows. After that, you can then proceed into the park and hop on to the Tram, it is an approximately 45mins ride which will bring you through the entire park. Plus a guide that truly knows the park and all the details very well, the tram ride is probably the most informative part of the entire visit.

As the park has a strictly “No Flash Photography” rule, so be prepared to just sit through most of the ride without much photography chance. Basically, just enjoy the ride.

After the ride, you can either choose to watch some of the animal shows available at the different timings or you can choose (like us) to walk through some of the trails, for example the new Wallaby Trail, Leopard Trail, East Lodge Trail & Fishing Cat Trail.

When we mentioned about the Night Safari, one of the first animal that the girls talked about was the ‘hoot’ Owl.

If you are looking for food & beverage, there are quite a few places to consider.

Pardon this unclear picture. This is a true Safari dinner with the diners seated in the ‘tram-to-restaurant’ idea. Nested in the midst of the park, you are sure to have some nice memories.

A family photo to end it all.
