Community Games 2013 - Bowling Carnival Games

Events

Thanks to Community Games, we were invited to a bowling game! Among so many games available for this year’s CG2013, bowling is one of the few games I would love to join to compete.

Thanks to Orchid Bowl @ Orchid Country Club, a groups of bloggers were invited to witness the opening game for Community Games Bowling Carnival and a chance to ‘strike’ up an interactive and fun-filled afternoon. I’m so happy I was able to bring my wife and daughter along!

Looking at the participants waiting anxiously for the lanes to be prepared, reminds me of my previous competitions. Stress!

Lanes are oiled to be at it’s best for a good fight.

We are not invited to sit around too, it’s out turn to show our power!

Kless’s stance is as good as always. I totally love it when my wife and I can enjoy a game together.

We had a great time of bowling and linking up with the rest of the bloggers.

Isn’t it cool for CG2013 to bring families together?

Community Games 2013 - Introduction To Floorball

Events

Once again the Community Games 2013 is heating up in the month of April. And we were invited to attend an introduction to Floorball. Partnering with 13 Shining Stars Floorball Academy, a group of bloggers sacrificed our sleep on a Saturday morning and sweated it out at Kallang Cage with Jill and Priscilla.

Jill Quek was awarded the Coach Recognition Award by the Singapore Sports Council in 2007. She has been coaching floorball competitively for 8 years, with both international and local coaching experience. Jill has represented Singapore in the Women’s Floorball Championships since 1999 and played at the elite level during overseas stint in Sweden and Finland.
Priscilla Chia starting coaching floorball in 2006 and had coached both school level as well as on the Singapore League level. Priscilla has represented Singapore as a player at the 2009 World Floorball Championship in Sweden.

In short, we had the best coaches in Singapore to teach us the amateurs (none of the bloggers has played floorball before). Indeed an honor!

(L-R): Eng Hoe, Wen Xin, Melissa, Grace and Jill.
Jill teaching us how to hold the floorball stick correctly. But once we started to play, everyone adopts our own comfortable method =)

The plastic ball used in floorball is only 29 grams. So it’s much safer than hockey, the most is a bruise on the arms or legs if hit. But I think none of us were injured during the game, we were quite good for first-timers.

Time to put what we have learnt to the test. The court we played on was indoor, no fans but open doors and windows. Still, we sweated like nobody’s business. I guess that’s the purpose of exercise. For a guy like me, I don’t mind lah..

The face-off, how we start the game or after a team has scored.

One of our key players, Tiffany! She is good!

Floorball is FUN! I think I really enjoyed it a lot and will definitely try to play it again with friends in the near future.

Great to know these fun-loving friends!
(Front L-R): Jill, Tiffany, Rui Ying, Grace, Melissa, Jessie, Priscilla
(Back L-R): Calvin, Andy, Me, Eng Hoe

Community Games 2013 - Opening Event

On the 16 March 2013, the Community Games 2013 had it’s opening event at Yuhua Community Club.

DSC_8302

Since it was a Saturday, I initially decided to bring the entire family together to attend the event and watch the first Basketball Men’s 5-on-5 match. However, Jayne was down with a sudden fever and so only Joey accompanied me in the end. Nonetheless, we had a great time and I think it was the first time Joey was introduced to some of the sports on showcase.

Joey definitely inherited her mother’s photography interest and flair. Not bothered by the hot sun and stood still for a full minute to ensure she got the best shot.

First time Joey sees a canoe boat upfront. I think she looks good as a female sportsman.

The skipping team was at the venue to showcase their amazing skills too.

After walking past the team for a few times, she finally plucked up her courage to give it a try.

But her favourite sports much to her Daddy’s delight was the football shooting game. Maybe I can train her to play futsal with me in future.

Quite a good shooting posture.

Watching the 2 teams doing their best to defend and attack, reminded me of my playing days in Secondary School. It was no joke to run up and down the court for the entire period. These guys are good! Eventually, Yuhua CSC won the game with score 48-40.

We watched another game going on concurrently in the sports hall. The opening Badminton game between Jurong Spring and Bukit Batok East CSC.

DSC_8477

It was fun-filled day, especially so for me cos I had a rare chance to be out with Joey alone.

Joey was so hungry after the exercises, she ate double portion of dinner. Hahahaa..
