This is a series of the places I have visited in Tokyo when Kless and I were there in October.
Shimokitazawa 下北沢, located in Setagaya and is usually considered to be one of Tokyo’s hippest neighbourhoods among young people. The atmosphere and fashion is similar to the more popular Harajuku, but is usually less crowded and has a much laid-back atmosphere. Also known as Shimokita, the district is a center for stage theatre and live music venues.
How to get there
Shimokitazawa Station is served by the JR Chuo Line, JR Tokaido Shinkansen Line and Odakyu Line.

This area is not listed on the usual Tokyo City Guide so you can imagine not many tourists will be sighted here.
We were there in the morning for breakfast and it’s such a relaxing time to sit along the street, eat my croissant and people watch.
Kless and I did not plan to stay in this town for long, but for some unknown reason, we were drawn to the laid-back atmosphere and spent almost the entire day walking around the shops and looking at the different items.
I seriously thought of having a haircut in Japan, but the cost is almost double of what I pay in Singapore. Thinking back, I am quite regretfully I missed the chance.
Shimokitazawa is packed with tiny bars, cafes and retro stores.
I like how the Japanese will set up specialities shops on the 2nd floor of their houses. Don't be fooled by the outer appearance, the stuff are very nice and expensive too. Some of it are even collectors’ items, only found in Japan.
You can trust the Japanese to decorate their shops with kawaii items.
Using your wall as display wall, idea!
If you feel tired walking around the neighbourhood, just sit down for afternoon tea. Recommend you a nice deli that serves very nice waffles and coffee.
Don’t miss this place, set aside at least half day or more to slowly explore the neighbourhood.
