It’s Traveling Season!
We are coming the the end of 2017 and it is the traveling season again!
Most of us love to travel but if you (minority) do not, then you have to read on, cos this may just change your mind.
“I love to travel but I hate all the hassle of booking air tickets, accommodations, trips, looking out for nearby attractions, etc.” Does it all sound so familiar?
I mean spending many hours browsing through the internet, looking for the best prices, sourcing for new ideas, reading up reviews from different travelers, secure bookings and last minute changes, waiting for friends to confirm their schedules, etc. Who really enjoys all these mundane work?
Thankfully, I have an awesome wife who loves to do all these planning, and all I have to do is to provide the budget sheet. Participation level is minimum when it comes to planning for a trip.
But the same question keeps ringing in my mind. How did she plan everything so effortlessly? How come she has so much time to look through and check through all the different sources and ideas?
Finally, the secret is revealed.
Booking Hotel with Traveloka!!
No wonder she is always able to find so many interesting places for our family trips! I browsed through the website and was in awe of how easy it is to use and how much info there is available.
Like the picture below says, “Not sure where to go yet? Get inspiration from Traveloka Blog.” This is basically like a one-stop site with everything one needs to plan for a trip.
So let me share with you some of the things that I find useful and why am I recommending it to you.
Best Price Guaranteed + Honest Pricing
If you ever find a better price elsewhere, Traveloka will match it or beat it!
Many of my friends agree with me, if a website dares to say its price is the best and gives their guarantee, then there must be some truth in the claim and we can be sure it will deliver. I personally like the numerous flight choices available when I was searching for a KL trip. With “Flight Discount Coupons”, SIN-KL on Scoot is only S$70.30 (inclusive of all taxes and surcharges). Fantastic!!
Price Alert
Finding it troublesome to keep track of the ups and downs of prices? Have you ever missed a special price fare because you are not at your laptop 24/7? Fret not with the super useful Price Alert service. Just create the settings of your alerts, sit back and let the system search and inform you. Best of all, you can receive all your alerts via the Traveloka App (both on App Store & Google Play).
Easy booking + Convenient Rescheduling
One thing we have learnt in our traveling episodes, changes are inevitable. So with the convenience of changing your flight schedule or other bookings, it will greatly enhance the traveling experience even before you fly.
Lots of Reviews from Travelers Around the World
As I was looking for recommendations in Malaysia, planning for a short getaway with my extended family, a familiar place popped up - Avillion Port Dickson. The reviews from other travelers were super useful. I was able to pinpoint what the hotel is offering and how helpful and understanding the staff were. A lot of positive and also some not-so-good feedbacks which made the reviews a lot more creditable. With this, I would surely book Avillion Port Dickson online with Traveloka.
Have I tickled your appetite to travel? Year end is coming and it is the best time to wind down from the busy work year and book a trip with your loved ones or friends!

Plantronics BackBeat Fit
Sponsored Review
As a self-proclaimed runner at the age of 42, running doesn’t come as easy as 1-2-3. To help in the motivation factor to run, I realized that music plays a big part. I used to think that running with music is not something I would like. How can I hear the traffic? What if someone calls out to me? Can I hear??
In comes the BackBeat Fit wireless earphones.
First thing first, why wireless? This is a no-brainer for me. I cannot imagine running with tangling wires all over the place. With wireless earphones, the problem is solved and running is more pleasant.
Unpacking the earphones, and I have the red version. It comes in blue and neon green colors too.
The earphones come in a sleek pouch that holds the charging cable.
Turn the pouch inside-out and you get the double use as a reflective running armband.
Battery life is 2.5 hours charge for 7 hours use. I realized for a 10km run, typically I can use the earphones for about 6 runs, pretty close to the estimated given battery life.
Download the BackBeat Fit App and follow through the easy steps to register your earphones and even set up the link to find your earphones when you misplaced it.
Putting on the earphones was simple and easy, no difficulty. Tried calling out to my wife with siri and the earphones worked perfectly. We can hear each other clearly and no disturbance. I’m a happy man if my wife can hear me.
One of the best feature of the earphone and I have successfully recommended to at least 4 of my friends so far, is the contoured eartips which allows the wearer to hear your surroundings. This is extremely crucial for me as I prefers to run at night and with my old earphones, I usually cannot hear the surrounding traffic or even the bicycle just behind me. This usually resulted in me hooking on only one side of my previous earphones.
But with BackBeat Fit, the safety aspect is well taken care of.
With at least 4-5 runs with the new earphones around my neighborhood, I took the earphones for a real test in the recent 10km race I have signed up for. This is the first time I am listening to music on a long run.
The earphones are nicely tugged in my ears and you can hardly see it from the front view. My before and after look with the earphones.
Points noted:
#1 the earphones didn’t move much at all, I did not have to adjust or was afraid that it will fall out.
#2 as you can see after the run, I was sweating crazy but there was no issues with the sound quality.
#3 I was totally aware of my environment when running, I could hear the heavy steps of the runner that was about to overtake me, and allowed me to keep to my side and not bang into him.
#4 related to the point above, I was still able to enjoy my music without having to adjust the volume.
*****************************************************************************************************
Now, the earphones are the first thing I look out for in the morning when I leave the house for work or at night when I go for a run. Totally loving it!
Last but not least, for all my readers, I have good news!

Ministry of Health - HealthHub
Advertorial
Ever had the trouble of finding your children’s medical records? How many more immunisation jabs does my child need to complete the course? When is the next eye check for my child? Does my child’s school provide regular dental care or dental knowledge? And so much more questions …
If you understand what I am talking about above, then I am here to introduce Singapore’s first one-stop online health information & services portal and mobile application (links for Google or Apple App downloads are found at the bottom of this post) by the Ministry of Health (MOH). This portal aims to provide access to key medical records and health content, not only for yourself but also for your children – HealthHub.
HealthHub, a Smart Nation initiative, aims to solicit user feedback to build a digital companion for healthy living for Singaporeans. The introduction of HealthHub is in line with the Government’s aim to build a Smart Nation by harnessing information technology to improve lives, create more opportunities and build stronger communities. It also advances the Heathcare 2020 vision of improving accessibility to health services as well as MOH’s Healthy Living Master Plan’s vision of making healthy living natural and effortless for Singaporeans.
Some of the main objectives of this app includes:
1. Provide Singaporeans with easy access to reliable health-related content, key medical records and e-services.
2. Increase the health literacy of Singaporeans.
3. Encourage the adoption of healthy habits among Singaporeans.
4. Nudge Singaporeans to take greater ownership of their own health and wellness.
******************************************************************************************
Enough talk, let’s jump into the App and take a look.
On the “Home” page, you will see the features of the HealthHub.
Live Healthy | A-Z | Directory | What’s On | Apps | Deals | Rewards | My Health
With a slide to the right, you can start off by logging in to track your personal health records “myHealth” and earn points (which I will talke about later). Log in with your SingPass. If you do not have a SingPass, you can click here to register for one, it will only take you a few minutes.
Once you have logged in, the App will automatically start the searching process for your records history.
My latest Lab Test Results I just had in June this year. So convenient!
Like mentioned, this App does not just allow me to track my personal health records, more importantly for parents, we are able to track and view our children’s health records too. Just go to “Family Health” and start to key in your children’s Birth Certificate Number / NRIC Number. Simple as ABC.
No harm personalizing it with your own photos! =)
Same process will be repeated for your children, the App will automatically search for their health records and update within minutes.
For those with younger kids, if you need to check on their immunisation records, the days of searching high and low for the paper records are over. Just a tap on your phone, and you will have all the records on your finger tips like never before.
What jabs are completed. What jabs are missing. You will know everything in a glance.
In myHealth, you can also view the appointments you have made. No risk of forgetting when to go for your check ups.
An additional security is built in into the App so as to protect whatever health records that may be sensitive or you just don’t want anyone to check your records. Enter a Passcode to unlock your SingPass session.

Last words after reviewing through the entire HealthHub app. It took me quite a well to go through everything. But I think it’s worth it, because this is truly an unique app that finally puts everything in order. From sorting out my messy medical records and those of my girls, to giving me some reading pleasures of interesting health topics, to finding out the nearest health directory, this app has nothing short of being amazing. My question is, “What took you so long to roll out such an app?”
All apps can be improved and here are some suggestions I would like to see in the near future for this app.
1. Possible to add spouse and parents to the FamilyHealth section?
I understand that for spouse and parents, they may have their own SingPass login and this may be a potential problem. But maybe the various authorities involved can work out something like giving permission to certain family members to view the records. Especially so for aging parents who are sometimes forgetful or not so tech savvy to keep track of their health issues. As children, we can help them or remind them.
2. Can the HealthPoints be used to pay for certain deals found in the app?
Currently, the HealthPoints seems to be restricted to use to redeem shopping vouchers, offset grocery at NTUC. Since there is a great list of more than 40 deals provided by various shops, then it makes sense for users to be able to offset HealthPoints for the deals.
3. Appointments, can we make appointments through the app?
The idea of showing what appointments we have is good. What about making it better if we can make appointments via the app? Like Polyclinic appointments, dental appointments, yearly health check ups, x-ray appointments, etc.
