F.U.N. @ Festival Village

When bringing children out, the most important thing for them has to be FUN! If not, their attention will wane within seconds and you’ll end up with whining kids, sulking faces, and last but not least, frustrated parents.

Brought the girls to Esplanade last week to try out the new ‘tangle’ activity @ Singapore Arts Festival Village. Every child was given a ball of elastic cloth and release their creativity and fun to tangle in the maze. Actually I was secretly hoping I can try it too =)

Jayne didn’t know what to do, she just stood there “stoned”. Most likely due to the fact she missed her usual afternoon nap.

The advantage of having more than 1 child is, you can always rely on the other child to enjoy the event and make the trip worth it.

It ain’t Arts Festival if you only have one activity right? One of the girls’ favourite hobby – drawing and colouring. I realised that Joey has started to be more creative in the recent art activities, she no longer just colour the entire piece, but will have designs like the one you see here, dots and heart shapes. Looks like all the effort of exposing her to more art events is paying off.

Look at her end product.

Jayne? She is still learning…

Art Garden @ Singapore Art Museum

This is an interactive contemporary art for children event. SAM presents a selection of artworks chosen for their imagination and interactivity. Discover how light make flowers dance. Watch fun animations from all over the world. Create your own 3D paper fruit and exchange it for a real fruit. Dress up life sized hand painted dolls in “Mummy Dearest”.

It’s a good place to spend a wonderful afternoon with your kids.

Joey was excited to check out what programs are available for her.

Mummy Dearest. A place for the kids to learn about “dressing up”. Joey was super excited to dress up the characters, I believe she would actually want to bring the clothes home if she could.

Jayne on the other hand is just happy to pose. Maybe when she is older bah..

Breaking the tradition – Mum in blue and Dad in pink.

Don’t you just love the colourful walls? An idea for the girls’ room in future..

IMG_0046

For the older kids, this is for them to understand the power of lightning action. For Joey and Jayne, they were just fascinated by the changing images on the boxes.

Took these photos in a room that is totally white. Got a funny feeling that the girls are walking in heaven. Angels!

It ain’t a garden if you don’t get your hands dirty. Art & Craft room for kids. Choose and create your choice of 3D fruit, orange, apple, pear, banana, etc.. Both my girls are not up to the task yet and personally I don’t think they can sit still for 10mins to complete such a task. So they did what they are best at, drawing! And what better chance to draw on some walls and props without parental objections..

Walter the rabbit. This is the mascot and symbol for the entire Art Garden event. You can purchase some of the merchandise too.

Enjoying A Digital Arts Lifestyle

This is a fun and interactive digital arts event that is held in conjunction with the Singapore Arts Festival 2011.

Organized by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) and NTUC U Family, the event excites the entire family through the use of fun and interactive games in popular mobile apps. Based on the theme of “I Want To Remember”, we get to re-live the sights and sounds of the childhood days through a series of interactive digital games.

The event is held at Esplanade Park, so it was the perfect chance to bring the girls out for a stroll along the bay.

It was indeed the Arts Festival - mobile karaoke bus. I have to say the singing was not too nice but respect for their courage lah… =)

A surprise treat from the event staff. Häagen-Dazs ice-cream! The best way to win over a kid (or some adults too, namely Kless).

To participate in the digital games, each participants will be given an activity passport and will be required to collect a total of 4 stamps from each of the interactive booths.

I’m trying to read through the instructions but Joey is too eager to just get on with the game.

After 2 booths, Jayne decided that she had enough. “black face”.. hahahaa, I actually think she looks cute =p

After Joey has collected all 4 stamps, it’s time to try her luck at the digital ‘tikam’ booth. I still prefer the old-fashioned ‘tikam’ stall.

Besides the games, the entire Esplanade Park was transformed into a very nice place for a family gathering area. There were ample spaces for families to just sit around and enjoy some nature lifestyle.

Thanks to The Right Spin for recommending us the place. We had a great time.

Date:
13 May – 5 Jun

Time:
5pm – 12am (Sundays – Thursdays)
5pm – 1am (Fridays – Saturdays)

Festival Village at the Esplanade Park
