Yi Jia South Village Seafood Restaurant

Heard so much from colleagues that the food is cheap and nice. After much begging asking, finally got the name of the restaurant and address.

Situated along Macpherson Road, the restaurant is nested among a row of shophouses which is easily missed.

The appetizers are surprisingly nice, pickled papaya and seasoned peanuts.

The girls’ favourite, but got to control a bit.

Joey’s front tooth is coming off, so she has to eat her cracker from the side. But that didn’t deter her to finish the entire basket of crackers.

Since we are having dinner with my brother-in-law, we have to order based on his preference of food; no seafood and only chicken breast meat, if possible. So we didn’t get to try the Assam Fish Head and Salted Egg Pork Ribs. However, the dishes we tried were not too bad at all.

A must order for Kless whenever we eat out, Fried Yam Ring. Nothing special, the yam is done just right.

One of the recommended dish, 纸包鸡. Most wrapped chicken will be slightly soggy or too dry, but here the chicken meat is just nice, tender and juicy.

Curry Chicken 咖喱鸡丁, though it may look simple but the curry fragrance will definitely win you over. Coupled with white rice, it’s good enough to finish off one bowl.

No meal is complete without some vegetables and mushroom, cos it’s the girls’ favourite, their grandfather will order this for sure. One thing I realised is the dishes like this vegetable is not too salty, which is just to my personal liking. Or for older folks.

My personal favourite, another recommended dish to order. 菜脯豆腐. The 菜脯 is done till perfection, crispy and crunchy. If I can only order 1 dish for the day, this would be my choice!

The main reason why we were there, to try the famous Salted Egg Crabs, it’s on special offer $29 for two Sri Lanka Crabs. Very tasty and not too “gelat”. For me, the crab is too “deep fried”, you will end up eating both the meat and the shell, which to me is not the best way to savour seafood. But still among all the salted egg crabs I have tried before, this is the best.

Last but not least, the dessert was Fried Ice Cream. $2 for each, just nice for an individual’s portion.

I am sure we will be back for other dishes. The portion is considered big for the price. We ordered 6 dishes and with drinks, the total bill was $110. For a 7-pax family meal, I say it’s a good deal.
